Fish and the Fishdex

There are over 200 fish around the island, in five rarities: common, uncommon, rare, legendary and mythic. You'll also pull up the odd old boot.

You'll have to find those yourself. Some only bite at night and some only in the rain. The rarest won't bite until you have a better rod.

Golden fish

Once in a long while a fish comes up golden. It's worth far more than a normal one, and everyone on the island hears about it.

Sizes and records

Every fish has a size, and bigger ones sell for more. Beat your biggest by a good margin and the catch card cheers a new best. You can show off a good fish to people nearby from your backpack.

Every kind of fish also has a world record. Land a bigger one than anyone ever has and everyone on your island hears about it, and your name goes in the Fishdex. The Hall of Fame keeps a board of the week's biggest catches too, and any fish can top it.

The Fishdex

Press F (or tap the book) to open it. It lists every fish you've found, how many you've caught, your biggest, the world record and what it's worth. Fish you haven't caught show as ???, and you won't see when or where they bite until you land one.
